NILPHAMARI, Jan 27: World Leprosy Day, was observed in Nilphamari on January 26 as elsewhere in the country. The day was observed with a hope to eliminate the disease and to establish social, physical and human rights of the patients.
The government declared the country leprosy free in 1998 but despite that many areas of the country including Nilphamari is still at risk of leprosy. As leprosy-prone area there is a leprosy hospital in Nilphamari named Danish-Bangladesh Leprosy Mission (DBLM) at Notkhana, Nilphamari where the patients are being treated.
