A total of six people were killed in lightning strikes in Habiganj, Sirajganj, Panchagarh and Chapainawabganj on Wednesday and eight in Sunamganj, Gaibandha, Sherpur and Sylhet on Tuesday last, reports UNB.
In Habiganj, two farmers-Azim Uddin, 40, and Shahin Miah, 35, were killed and two others- Abdul Hakim and Askar Mia of Moka village, injured after being hit by a thunderbolt while harvesting paddy in Baniachang upazila at 11:30 am, said Ershad Ali, chairman of Kagapasha union.
The injured were taken to a local hospital.
Besides, Paniomoda union parisahd chairman of Nabiganj upazila Izasur Rahman said Abdur Zabbar was killed by lightning while harvesting paddy in his land.
In Sirajganj, a farmer was killed and another injured a thunderbolt hit them while cutting paddy in the field amid thunderstorm at Sinnarchar in Kazipur upazila.
The deceased was identified as Sanowar Hossain, 30, son of Abdul Haque of Sinnarchar village.
In Chapainawabganj, another farmer, Sonaddi, 40, son of Erfan Ali of Suknapara village of Sadar upazila, was killed being hit by a streak of lightning while cutting paddy in the field at Chanbhasa in Sadar upazila.
In Panchagarh, a housewife, Maozina Aktar, 35, wife of Sattar Ali, died as a streak of lightning struck her at the courtyard of her house in Singroad area of Chaklahat union in Sadar upazila early in the morning.
In Sunamganj, three people were killed and three others injured in separate incidents of lightning on Tuesday.
In Jamalganj upazila, a farmer was killed and three others injured as a lightning struck them in Paknar haor around 11.00 am.
The deceased was identified as Kamala Kanto Talukder, 55, son of Krishna Kanto Talukder.
Locals said the thunderbolt struck a group of farmers while they were cutting paddy in the haor, leaving Kamala Kanto dead on the spot.
The injured are Prince Talukder, 25, Soikat Talukder, 15 and Gyan Das, 40 were injured in the lightning strike.
Another farmer Hiran Mia, 28, was killed on the spot after being hit by another thunderbolt while cutting paddy in the same haor.
Earlier in the morning Abdur Rashid, 40, was killed after being hit by a thunderbolt at Mollapara union in Sadar upazila.
Meanwhile, in Gaibandha, a woman and her son died as a thunderbolt hit them while they were having meal after working in the field.
Rostam Ali, chairman of Jumarbari union said local farmer Salam Mia along with his two sons Sohel Rana and Abu Tarek were working in the paddy field.
Later in the noon Salam's wife Bilkis Begum brought them meal and the family was eating their launch beside the filed while the thunderbolt hit them, he said.
Mother and her son Sohel died on the spot while the father, their other son and a neighbour sustained injuries.
Injured were rushed to the Saghata Upazila Health Complex.
In Sherpur, lighting strike killed another farmer Hossain Mia, 28, son of Somir Mia of Chakkarpara village in Sadar upazila, while he was cutting paddy amid rain in the field at Chanderbil area at 10:30 am.
The thunderbolt killed Hossain on the spot, said Dhala Upazila Chairman Md Rois Uddin.
In Sylhet, two teenagers were killed by thunderbolt while they were taking meal for their fathers who were working at a paddy field in Uporborai village in Kanaighat upazila. The deceased were identified as Tufayel Ahmod Tamim, son of Karim Ali and Salman Ahmed, son of Fakhrul Islam.
