BOGURA, Jun 04: Brinjal growers of the district are disappointed due to low market price of the produce.

Sources said farmers had to spend Tk 20,000 to Tk 25,000 to grow brinjal on one bigha of land.

But now they are incurring around Tk 10,000 to Tk 15,000 from the yield they produced on the same land.

Officials of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said brinjal growers expected a good market price this season. The cultivated who live on the vegetable farming are the worst sufferer as it would be hard for them to repay the loan they took for the farming purpose.

Sub-assistance agriculture officer Faridur Rahman said a bumper production of brinjal has been achieved this season amid a favourable weather.

Trader Ramjan Ali of Shibganj upazila said he purchases 10 maunds of brinjal at Tk 4000 from the farmers on Sunday last.

Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chadra Sarker said farmers are cultivating brinjal on commercial basis in the area.

Low market price hit the growers heavily, he added.
