Magura Aman farmers happy over bumper yield, fair price

MAGURA, Nov 18: A bumper production and high price of Aman paddy have brought smile on the faces of Aman farmers in Magura.

Newly harvested Aman paddy has started to appear in the market. Farmers in the district are happy over production and price of Aman paddy.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Magura said, a total of 47,200 hectares of land was brought under Aman cultivation in the district. A bumper production has been achieved in the district this year which is 1,90500 metric tonnes.

When contacted, Golam Rasul an aman farmer of village Moghi under Magura sadar Upazila said, "Aman paddy is now being sold in the local market at Tk 680 to Tk 720 per maund as against Tk 550 to Tk 570 last year. We are making a good profit."

When contacted Magura DAE deputy director Mokhlesur Rahman said, "Price as well as production of Aman paddy is satisfactory this year.  We have ensured smooth supply of fertiliser and seeds. The weather was also favourable. This is why a bumper production of Aman paddy has been achieved in the district."
