Magura cattle traders expecting good profit

MAGURA, Sept 9: Magura cattle traders are expecting a sum of Tk 500 million (Tk 50 crore) this year. As 5 days left before Eid-ul-Azha, cattle market is getting momentum in the district.

Magura district livestock office sources informed, a total of 11252 cattle have been fattened in the district this year for selling in Eid-ul-Azha.

Abul Hossen, a cattle fattener of village Knadabashkutha under Magura sadar upazila said, "I purchased three cattle one year ago at the cost of Tk 80,000.  In the meantime I have sold two cattle at Tk 75,000. I am expecting Tk 40 thousand more from my other cattle."  

Badrul Ala of village Jagla under Magura sadar upazila said, "I purchased two cattle at Tk 50,000. I have sold those at Tk 85,000."

Harun Munshi, another fattener of village Mohishadanga under Magura sadar upazila said, "Every year Indian cattle flood local market. But this year Indian cattle are hardly seen in the market. Consequently we are getting fair price of our cattle."

BRAC representative Rokeya Begum said, "We have provided the cattle fatteners with loan facility. We think, recovery of our loan from cattle fatteners will be easier compared to last year."

When contacted, Magura district livestock officer Kanai Lal Sharnaker said, "A total of 11,252 cattle have been fattened in the district this year. We have provided the fatteners with proper training. We have encouraged them to use (UMS) urea, molasses and straw method avoiding use of steroid drugs. We have formed 4 committees in the district to check use of steroid drugs in cattle fattening."     litan1968@gmail.com
