Magura chilli growers happy over good yield, fair price

MAGURA, May 4: Magura green chilli growers are overjoyed with a bumper production and good price.
A bumper production of green chilli has been achieved in the district. Newly harvested chilli has started to come to the market.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Magura said a total of 143 hectares of land was brought under green chilli cultivation in the district this year. A bumper production has been achieved which is 2002 metric tonnes.
Kader Mollah, a chilli grower of village Aldhani under Magura sadar Upazila said, "I cultivated chilli in 2 bighas of land. I have earned Tk about 95 thousand by selling my produce while my production cost was about Tk 30 thousand".
Rustam Shekh, a farmer of village Nalirdanga under Magura sadar Upazila said, last year I faced losses by cultivating paddy. For this I cultivated chilli this year and I have got a good profit.'
When contacted, Magura DAE deputy director Mokhlesur Rahman said, as the weather was favourable and the farmers were provided with adequate seeds and training, a bumper production of chilli has been achieved in the district.
