MAGURA, Mar 24 (UNB): Farmers in Magura district have seen a bumper production of vegetables in the current season much to their delight.
Sources at the Department of Agricultural Extension said this year, a total of 3,785 hectares of land in four upazilas of the district were brought under vegetable farming with a production target of 70,780 tonnes.
The growers cultivated vegetables on 1,675 hectares of land in Sadar upazila, 880 hectares in Sripur upazila, 450 hectares in Shalikha upazila and 780 hectares in Mohammadpur upazila.
Bottle guard, bean, bitter guard, , pumpkin, wax guard, tomato, cauliflower, cabbage, arum, eggplant, spinach, Indian variety spinach and other vegetables were cultivated in a large scale in the district.
After meeting the local demand, the vegetables are being supplied to different parts of the country, including the capital.
The vegetable farmers in the district are happy with fair prices of their produces as well.
