MAGURA, Jan 28: Magura rice mill traders have counted an estimated loss of at least Tk 100 million due to blockade.
The situation raised grave concern among the rice mill traders as well as workers in Magura. Due to blockade transporting rice to different parts of the country including Dhaka are being hampered.
Magura rice traders sources informed Aman paddy harvesting has been completed in the district about a month ago. For this it is high time to husk rice from paddy. Every year at this time rice of at least Tk 5 million are transported to different pars of the country from Magura. But due to blockade truck drivers are demanding abnormally high charge. Normally they Tk 15 to 16 thousand per truck for transporting rice from Magura to Dhaka. But now they are asking for Tk 35 to 40 thousand per truck.
Sarowar Hossein a rice trader of Magura town said, I have taken loan from a bank to continue my rice business. But due to blockade now I have practically no business. In this situation how shall I repay my loan?
