Magura sees massive Aush cultivation

MAGURA, July 27: Adequate rain and the government's incentive have become a boon for Aush farmers in the district.

This month, heavy rainfall has taken place in the district which is favourable for Aush cultivation, farmers said.

"Besides this, local administration has provided us with incentive," many a farmer said.

Incentive and rainfall are helping farmers boost Aush cultivation, according to sources at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Magura.

The DAE have decided to bring 7,120 hectares of land under Aush cultivation in the district this season with an output target of 22,301 tonnes of rice, they said.

Incentive has been distributed among 6,000 Aush farmers. Every farmer has been provided with 05 kg of seeds, 10 kg of DAP and 10 kg of MoP, they added.

Aziz Mollah, a farmer of Tengakhali village under Magura Sadar upazila, has said, "I've brought one bigha of land into Aush cultivation after getting incentive from the DAE."

Billal Hossain, a farmer of Bashkutha village under the same upazila, has said that due to adequate rain no money has been spent on irrigation for my two bighas of cropland.

"If the present favourable weather prevails in the future, we will achieve bumper Aush production."

Contacted, agriculturist Shafiqur Rahman has said Aush cultivation is mainly dependent on rainfall rather than irrigation.

Magura DAE Deputy Director Dr Md Yashin Kabir says, "We've provided Aush growers with incentive to boost its production."
