MAGURA, Oct 13: Hide traders in Magura are in trouble as hides worth Tk 20 million are lying unsold in their godowns. Magura hide traders purchased hides during Eid-ul-Azha. But those are still in their occupation as tannery owners are showing reluctance to purchase hides.

Shamir Sheikh, a hide trader of Nanduali area in Magura town said, "The government has fixed up cow hide price at Tk 60 to 65 per square feet and goat hide at Tk 30 to 35 per square feet. But tannery owners are offering us Tk 25 to 30 for per square feet cow hide while Tk 10 to 15 for goat hide. I purchased hide of worth Tk 70 thousand during Eid-ul-Azha and it is still in my possession."

Darul Hasan, a hide trader of Notun bazar area in Magura town told, "I have purchased hide of Tk 0.2 million during Eid-ul-Azha. The hide is lying unsold in my godowns as tannery owners are showing reluctance to buy those. Actually they are playing tricks with an ulterior motive to purchase hide at much lower price compared with that fixed up by government.
