Man killed over land dispute in Sylhet

SYLHET, May 11 (UNB): A man was killed in an attack by his rival over a land dispute at Chunarpar village in Balaganj upazila on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Afroz Ali, 40, son of Abdul Majid of the village.
Juber Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar Police Station, said Afroz Ali and Manjurul Islam, son of late Mahtab Uddin of the village, had been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land.
As a sequel to the enmity, an altercation ensued between Afroz and Manjurul over the issue around 9 am.
At one stage, Manjurul hit Afroz with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.
He died on the way to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
