Man stabbed to death by mugger at M'singh Railway Station

MYMENSINGH, Feb 22 (UNB): A 45-year-old man, identified as Gopal Chandra Pal from Netrakona's Mohanganj upazila, was tragically killed in an alleged mugging incident at Mymensingh Junction Railway Station on Wednesday.

Gopal Chandra Pal, a passenger on a Dhaka-bound Mahua commuter train, met his untimely death following a violent altercation with a mugger. According to Dipak Chandra Pal, a sub-inspector at Mymensingh Railway thana, the incident occurred at approximately 7:00 pm. Gopal disembarked from the train during a stopover at the station, purportedly to answer nature's call, when he was confronted by a group of muggers on platform 5.

The confrontation escalated over an attempt by the assailants to snatch Gopal's mobile phone, leading to a scuffle. During the altercation, one of the muggers stabbed Gopal, inflicting fatal injuries.

Emergency services rushed Gopal to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities, led by Anwar Hossain, the officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model thana, have launched a manhunt for the individuals responsible for this heinous act.

The incident has raised concerns over safety at railway stations, prompting calls for increased security measures to protect passengers from such tragic occurrences in the future.
