Man to walk gallows for killing wife

SATKHIRA, Jul 2 (UNB): A tribunal here on Wednesday convicted a man of killing his wife for dowry in 2006 and sentenced him to death.

The condemned convict is Siddique Gazi, son of Wahed Gazi of Padma Shakhra village in Sadar uapzila.

According to the prosecution, Rikta Sultana, daughter of Afsad Gazi of Rahimpur village in Kaliganj upaizla, was married off to Siddique in 2003. However, their marriage was not a happy one as Siddique used to torture her over dowry.

On April 27, 2006, Siddique beat Rikta over the issue, leaving her dead on the spot.
