NILPHAMARI, May 09: Rampant use of polyethylene bags in packaging goods and commodities is still going on by the traders in Nilphamari district despite the government ban on its use.
Sources said, use of jute sacks in packing products was made mandatory by the Ministry of Textile and Jute five years earlier.
Enacted in 2010 jute packaging law envisages that all the traders as well as the concerned government organisations should use jute sacks while packing paddy, wheat, fertiliser, sugar and so on.
But the traders and millers are continuing to ignore the law in absence of its enforcement.
While contacted Abu Alam, a husky mill owner of Domar upazila of the district said, "We are not interested in using the jute sacks as plastic bags are cheaper and long lasting in comparison to jute bags.
