Martyred Intellectuals Day observed in districts

People from all strata of life pay tributes to martyred intellectuals by placing wreaths at intellectuals' graveyard in Chowhatta of Sylhet city on Thursday, marking Martyred Intellectuals Day — Focus Bangla

The Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed in different districts on Thursday to commemorate those intellectuals who were killed by Pakistani forces and their collaborators during the Liberation War, reports BSS.

In Gaibandha, the Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country on Thursday amid paying tributes to the martyred intellectuals with due solemnity and patriotic fervour.

Marking the day, the district administration, Gaibandha Municipality, Bangladsh Awami League district unit and socio-cultural organisations chalked out an elaborate programme.

In the morning at 10 am, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kazi Nahid Rasul along with senior officials of the district and upazila administrations paid rich tributes to the martyred intellectuals at the Shahid Memorial in front of Old DC office of the town through placing floral wreaths.

In Manikganj, people from all walks of life in the district on Thursday observed the "Martyred Intellectuals' Day" paying rich tributes to the intellectuals who were brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators at the fag-end of the country's Liberation War in 1971.

The day's programme was formally started in the morning with placing of floral wreaths at the martyred freedom fighters memorial monument by Deputy Commissioner Rahana Akther.

Later, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Golam Azad khan, Manikganj Zila Parishad Chairman Freedom Fighter Advocate Golam Mohiuddin, Manikganj Pourasabha Mayor Md. Ramjan Ali, public representatives, political leaders, district level officers, freedom fighters, civil society members, students and teachers placed wreaths at the monument.
