Massive Boro farming target undertaken in five Gopalganj upazilas

GOPALGANJ, Feb 5: The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has undertaken a massive Boro farming programme in five upazilas of Gopalganj district during the current season.
According to DAE sources, a total of 74,525 hectares of land will be brought under Boro cultivation in the district with a production target of 3,23,581 metric tonnes (MT) in all five upazilas here.
Of the total land 42,171 hectares will be brought under high yielding variety (HYV) and 32,354 hecatres under local variety.
The upazilawise break-up in as follows: A total of 18,705 hectares with a production target of 84,465 MT in sadar upazila, 13,460 hectares with a production target of 53,951 MT in Muksudpur upazila, 12,665 hectares with a production target of 53,305 MT in Kasiani upazila, 21,144 hectares with a production target of 94,686 MT in Kotalipara upazila and 8,551 hectares with a production target of 37,174 MT in Tungipara upazila, the local AED said.
Atul Krishna Mollick, Deputy Director (DD), Agriculture, Gopalganj said that special initiatives has been taken for cultivation of Boro aiming to produce a record quantity of Boro this season in the district.
