Massive plan taken to cultivate Boro in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Nov 16 (BSS): Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has taken up a massive programme to cultivate Boro paddy in the six upazilas of the district after harvesting Aman.
DAE office sources said a total of 54,750 hectares of land would be brought under paddy cultivation in the district with the production target of 2,11,279 tonnes.
Of the total land, 1,210 hectares would be brought under highbrid variety, 53,000 hectares under High Yielding Variety (HYV) and 500 hectares under local variety.
Deputy Director of DAE Suvash Chandra Gayan said there is no shortage of Boro seedlings in the district. Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) has already distributed over 1,050 tonnes seeds of BRRI Dhan 28 and 29 among the farmers through 91 dealers in the district. In addition, around 40 tonnes of quality seeds were given to the farmers directly.
He said the DAE is providing farmers with logistic support including fertilizers and necessary agri-inputs. Bagladesh Krishi Bank, Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani Bank and BRDB is disbursing short term crop loan to the farmers of the district to make the Boro cultivation programme a success.
