Massive TR, FFW, Kabita work completed in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 23 (BSS): Massive infrastructural development works under the Test Relief (TR), Food for Work (FFW) and Works for Taka (Kabita) programmes have been completed at the costs of 10,570 tonnes of food grains and Taka 81.5 million during the last 2013-2014 fiscal in the district.

According to official sources, thousands of the poorer section people were benefited following completion of 4,334 projects at 7,623.68 tonnes of food grains under TR, 270 projects under FFW at 2,946.32 tonnes food grains and 454 projects under Kabita at Taka 81.5 million.

Implementation of the development projects were completed in three phases under the TR, FFW and Kabita programmes to improve the infrastructural uplifts in rural areas of all 76 unions under eight upazilas in the district.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief had allocated 10,570 tonnes food grains, including rice and wheat, under TR and FFW and about Taka 81.5 million under Kabita programmes for employment of the poor through rural infrastructural works.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Abdus Salam said the works under the TR, FFW and Kabita programmes have been completed by June last.

Under the programmes, the allocated food grains and money were distributed among the poor for development of the educational and other institutions, maintenance and repairing works of rural infrastructures, roads, earth filling and other works.

A total of 1,787 projects were implemented at 2,812.68 tonnes of food grains under the general upazila-based TR allocations, 2,407 projects at 4,500 tonnes under the six parliamentary constituency-based TR and 37 projects at 89 tonnes under the reserved constituency-based TR allocations for the female MPs.

Besides, 56 projects were implemented at 122 tonnes of food grains allocated in favour of the Divisional Commissioner and 47 more projects at 100 tonnes food grains allocated under TR programmes in favour of the Deputy Commissioner.

Under FFW programmes, 124 projects were completed at 1,386.32 tonnes of food grains under the general upazila-based allocation and 146 projects at 1,560 tonnes of food grains under the six parliamentary constituency-based allocations.

Under Kabita programmes, 232 projects were implemented at over Taka 41.1 million under the general upazila-based allocation, 201 projects at Taka 36 million under the six parliamentary constituency-based allocations and 21 projects at Taka 4.33 million under the reserved constituency-based allocations.

As a result of successful implementations of the TR, FFW and Kabita projects side by side with other social safety net activities like employment generation programmes, thousands of the poor, including distressed women, were highly benefited.

Talking to BSS today, the DRRO said the projects were implemented maintaining transparency and accountability at all stages to assist the poorer and working section people of the district through development works.
