M'bazar, Ctg road crashes kill SI, hurt 21 cops

A police Sub-Inspector (SI) was killed and 21 others injured in separate road accidents in Moulvibazar and Chattogram on Saturday, report agencies.

BSS says from Moulvibazar, a police Sub-Inspector (SI) was killed and eight others injured in a road accident in the Moinar Dokan area of Rajnagar Upazila of the district here early on Saturday morning.

The victim was identified as SI Samiran Chandra Das, a resident of Panchpariya village under Habiganj Sadar.

According to police and local sources, the police van carrying the policemen lost control over the steering and collided with a road side tree on Sylhet-Moulvibazar Highway in the Moinar Dokan area around 5am while returning to the police station after nabbing three accused persons leaving nine people injured.

Police and Fire Service personnel rescued the injured and took them to the Moulvibazar 250-bed General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared SI Samiran dead.

UNB reports from Chattogram, thirteen industrial police members were injured as a police van carrying them was hit by a bus near the Sagorika area in the port city on Saturday.

The injured were identified as Shamim Hossain, 22, Jashim, 23, Rimi, 22, Manik, 24, Salauddin, 22, Shaikat, 22, Mahabul, 26, Shajib,21, Jannat, 22, Rumpa, 21, Masud, 23, Md Jashim, 23, Uinpre, 22, said Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-Charge of Pahartali police station in Chattogram.

The injured are being treated at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, he said.
