RANGPUR, Dec 17 (BSS): Speakers at a meeting have stressed for more media effective reporting to sensitise the adolescents and school level students on their rights to safer reproductive health and challenges at the juncture of their physical changes.
Non-governmental development organisation BRAC under its Adolescent Development Programme (ADP) organised the informal sensitisation meeting with the local media workers on Monday afternoon at Shilpokola Academy auditorium in the city. Programme Officer of BRAC Abeda Sultana addressed the meeting, participated by 30 journalists from the print, electronic and online media, as the chief guest with local journalist Abdus Sahed in the chair.
Senior Area Manager of Rangpur ADP of BRAC Monika Rani Barman, journalists Swapan Chowdhury, Utsa Rahman, Humayun Kabir Manik, Siddik Hossain, Shahjada Mian Azad, SM Piyal, Shakil Ahmed, Nazrul Mridha and Mostafizur Rahman spoke on the occasion.
The meeting was informed that 2,700 students of 15 schools are getting education on physical change, sex and reproductive health now in the district under the programme being conducted by BRAC with Ganoswakhkhorota Avijan since 2013.
The main objectives of the programme are to create awareness among the adolescents about physical change, sexual and 'reproductive health, hygiene, nutrition, dowry, child marriage for their normal and safer growth and preventing social crimes.
Programme Officer of BRAC Abeda Sultana narrated different problems being faced by the adolescents at the juncture of their ages when physical change begins and way-outs to overcome the situation.
The speakers narrated importance of learning about physical change at the juncture of ages, sexual and reproductive health, sexually transmitted diseases, premature pregnancy and complicacy during pregnancy, safe delivery and motherhood and other related issues.
The school level students are now being highly benefited getting education on physical change, hygiene, sexual and reproductive health in their classrooms though they had confusions on all these issue in the past, they said.
The extent of eve-teasing, child marriage, maternal and neonatal deaths could be reduced through properly awakening the adolescents with necessary education on safer sexual and reproductive health since their physical change begins, they mentioned.
The chief guest asked the media workers for filing more reports in sensitising the school level boys and girls to have proper knowledge and education on physical change, safer sex and reproductive health for building a future nation.
