Media role towards building planned family stressed

RAJSHAHI, Apr 3 (BSS): Speakers at an orientation for the journalists have said the responsive media role is very effective and vital towards building planned family everywhere in the society as dreamt by the nation as a whole.

They viewed there is no way but to create public awareness about aspects of planned family for attaining economic emancipation through freeing the nation from the curse of poverty and hunger.

Department of Family Planning organized the media orientation styled "Family Planning Concept, Safe Motherhood, Antenatal and Postnatal Care and Nutrition" held at the conference hall of Family Welfare Visitors Training Institute (FWVTI) in Rajshahi metropolis today (Wednesday).

Civil Surgeon Dr Shahidul Islam and Additional District Magistrate Jakir Hossain addressed the inaugural session as chief and special guests respectively with Family Planning Deputy Director Dr Amir Hossain in the chair.

Family Planning Assistant Director AKM Rokonuzzaman and FWVTI Principal Faridul Islam spoke as resource persons.

More than 35 district and upazila level newsmen of both print and electronics media and news agencies attended the workshop sharing views on how to attain the cherished goal.

The discussants put emphasis on bringing all the fertile couples under the campaign programme through reaching the family planning messages to them especially those who live in remotest and underprivileged areas.

Collective effort has become an urgent need to make all the fertile families planned.

Highlighting the necessity of expediting the village-level family planning activities, they called for giving top priority to motivating the fertile couples so that they could control their unwanted pregnancy through using contraceptives.

"If we can control the unexpected pregnancies in the greater perspective, country's population could be reduced to a tolerable rate easily," said Dr Shahidul Islam.
