PANCHAGARH, Jan 14 (bdnews24.com): A mild cold wave has once again hit Panchagarh as temperatures plunged from 13 degrees Celsius to below 10 degrees Celsius over 24 hours, leaving the low-income people of the northern district in distress.
As of 9am on Tuesday, the lowest temperature was recorded at 9.6 degrees Celsius in Tentulia, said Jitendra Nath Roy, chief officer at the local Met Office.
Light fog enveloped the whole district, located near the foothills of the Himalayas, and sunshine could barely penetrate it on Tuesday morning.
Ashraful Islam, a teacher at Sakoa Union School in Boda upazila, said, "The temperature is gradually dropping in the northern regions. The wind from the north has gotten colder since (last) evening."
He said the cold dominates from mid-November to February in the district, with the winter first arriving in that region.
Daily-wage earners, tea stall owners and other labourers are having difficulty going about their daily tasks, putting strain on their income.
Shahinur Islam, a labourer from Atwari upazila's Satkhamar village, said that his family would suffer in poverty if he could not work properly.
