SAVAR, Oct 09 (BSS): Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda on Tuesday laid emphasis on research activities for development of the livestock sector as the country can ensure food security with the innovation of new technologies.
The minister said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a two-day seminar on 'Annual Research Review Workshop-2018' as the chief guest, organised by Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI).
The BLRI so far has released a total of 83 package and technologies and the farmers are being benefited enormously by using most of those technologies, said the minister.
Country's most of the women are developing their livelihood and side by side contributing to the national economy by rearing different livestock species, he said.
Narayon Chandra said the livestock industry is creating employment opportunity directly for 20 per cent people and indirectly for 50 per cent people.
Local lawmaker Dr M Enamur Rahman attended as the special guest with BLRI Director General (DG) Dr Nathu Ram Sarker in the chair at the inaugural session of the two-day seminar.
Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Raisul Alam Mondol and Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) Dr M Kabir Ekramul Haq also spoke on the occasion.
