Modern technology helps boost wheat production


RAJSHAHI, Mar 20 (BSS): Speakers at a discussion laid emphasis on the need for increasing uses of modern technologies to boost wheat production for ensuring food security as its consumption is rising day by day.
They said time has come to enhance acreage of wheat farming instead of depending on only Irri-boro paddy in the dried area amidst the adverse impact of climate change.
The observation came in a field day-cum-farmers gathering under the banner "Projection of High Yielding Wheat Variety and Improving Crop and Soil Productivity with saving Inputs through Conservation Agriculture".
Regional Wheat Research Center (RWRC) and Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute jointly organised the function in Bakherabad Sophapur area under Mohadevpur Upazila yesterday afternoon.
Chairman of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) Dr Akram Hossain Chowdhury addressed the gatherings as the chief guest with its Executive Engineer Abdul Maleque Chowdhury in the chair.
Professor Dr Moshiur Rahman from Bangladesh Agricultural University, RWRC Principal Scientific Officer Dr Ilias Hossain, Upazila Agriculture Officer Mofidul Islam and BMDA Assistant Engineers Ashiqur Rahman, Abu Sadat Sayem and Harun Or Rashid also spoke.
