RAJSHAHI, Sept 20 (BSS): More irrigation efficiency has become a crying need for reduction of misusing water alongside decreasing costs of agricultural production, speakers at a participatory discussion here said today.
They viewed that the existing irrigation method has increased misuse and overuse of water mounting pressure on both groundwater and surface water posing a serious threat to ecology.
So, some major parameters like water distribution system, irrigation scheme management system, water marketing system, sources of water, and sources of energy, Alternate Wetting Drying (AWD) and type of pumps should be brought under consideration on urgent basis.
The observations came at a seminar styled "Role of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) towards Development of Vast Barind Tract" held at seminar hall of the Institute of Bangladesh Studies (IBS) in Rajshahi University.
