\\\'More silk exports needed for making economy vibrant\\\'

RAJSHAHI, May 27 (BSS): Emphasis should be given on promoting more silk export from the region for making its economy vibrant coupled with elevating its socio-economic condition through earning more foreign currencies, speakers at a participatory discussion here said Wednesday.

They also said boosting production of local yarn can help bolstering the export list coupled with revitalising the silk sector to regain its lost legacy alongside meeting the existing local demands.

They also stressed the need for enhancing export items through establishing industries based on agricultural and non-agricultural products in the region by utilising government initiatives aimed at earning foreign currency.

This observations came at a seminar styled "Product Development, Diversification and Adaptation to the Export of Silk Product in Bangladesh" held at the Regional Office of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) in Rajshahi city.

Under its National Training Programme, the EPB organised the seminar where more than 50 government and non-government officials concerned, exporters, entrepreneurs and others concerned people attended.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed addressed the seminar as chief guest while director general of Bangladesh Sericulture Development Board Anis-Ul-Haque Bhuiyan, president of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Muniruzzaman and vice-president of Bangladesh Silk Industries Owners Association Liakat Ali spoke as special guest with EPB Director Moazzem Hossain in the chair.

During the keynote presentation, Abdur Rouf, Director (Products) of EPB, narrated the aspects of boosting silk export volume.

Highlighting the present export position of agro-products sectors of the country and their global market, the speakers asked the bankers to come forward with fund.
