Mother turtle along with 114 eggs rescued from dog assault


COX'S BAZAR, Apr 09: A mother turtle has been rescued from an incident of dog assault on Inani beach in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar district.
At the same time, 114 eggs laid by the turtle were also recovered from under the sand.
With the immediate efforts of beach workers and hotel employees, the mother turtle was able to return to the sea safely.
The incident took place on Wednesday night on the sandbank in front of a hotel in the Tarkaman area of Inani beach.
Md Belal, a beach worker of the district administration at Inani, said that a large mother turtle that emerged from the sea at night laid eggs on the sandbank of the beach for about 20 minutes. Later, it covered the eggs with sand and tried to return to the sea. Around 9:30 pm, a herd of dogs started rushing at the turtle on its way back to the sea. At that time, hotel employee Md Hossain quickly came forward and tried to chase the dogs away.
Later, upon receiving the information, beach workers reached the spot and helped the mother turtle return to the sea safely by driving away the dogs.
Md. Belal further said that after the mother turtle returned to the sea, the eggs buried under the sand were recovered. A total of 114 eggs were collected and stored safely by removing the sand.
