Two workers of a readymade garment (RMG) factory were killed in Mymensingh district and five personnel of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) were injured in Chattogarm district on Saturday, reports agencies.

In Mymensingh, two garment workers have been killed after an auto-rickshaw crashed head-on into a pickup van at Bhaluka in Mymensingh district.

Three other autorickshaw passengers were injured in the accident in the Uthura Bazar area around 5:45 am on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as sisters Asma Akhtar, 35, and Shirina Akhtar, 26, from Hatiber village.

The auto-rickshaw was headed from Hatiber to Bhoradoba Bazar, said Shah Kamal Akondo, chief of Bhaluka Model Police Station, citing locals. As it neared the Uthura Bazar area, it crashed head-on into a pickup van carrying poultry.

Asma and Shirin were killed on the spot. Three, including another of their sisters, were injured. Locals rescued them and sent them to the local upazila health complex.

Legal action will be taken over the incident, OC Akondo said.

In Chattogram, five personnel of BAF were injured as a military vehicle carrying them overturned on Dhaka-Chattagram Highway at Mirsarai end of Chattogarm district on Saturday.

Though the identities of the injured could not be known, there were three military and two civil officers.

Sources said that the vehicle from Chattogram's airbase was heading towards Noakhali's Sonaimuri with the BAF officers on Saturday morning. The vehicle overturned due to the wet conditions of the highway and suddenly took a break in front of Mirsarai veterinary hospital, they said.

Sohel Sarkar, in-Charge of Jorarganj Highway police station, confirmed the matter, saying that the BAF officers received treatment from a private hospital in Mirsarai.
