BENAPOLE, Dec 21: Farmer Anisur Rahman of Chowagacha upazila in Jashore district has achieved an unmatched success by producing as many as six crops rather than a single one on the same piece of land in the same year.

He could set a unique example in district by way of producing crops through the multi-cropping method as the cropland acreage is now on the wane for various reasons.

The reduction in cropland in the upazila largely affected production of all types of crops. In a bid to retain the usual trend in the volume of production, several farmers were growing different crops on the land. They grew one or two additional types of crop along with a regular one in previous years.

But a different picture has been seen in the case of farmer Anisur Rahman.

He produced six types of crops rather than a single one and achieved a good success.

Anisur Rahman is a restaurant owner by profession and has been in the trade for two years.

In addition to this, he took the land next to his field and produced various crops there.

Now he has started dragon cultivation by leasing more than two bighas of land in the upazila's Tengurpur.

Since dragon fruit is a long-duration crop, the farmer has grown tomato, onion, cabbage, radish and green chili along with the fruit.

Radishes from his field have already been sold. Cabbage and green chilies are now in the sale process.

Apart from this, sale of dried onion flowers has also started. Farmer Anisur Rahman is making a satisfactory income from each crop.

Salmin Alam, Samaul Islam and Ujjal Hossain have engaged in the land maintenance work.

Anisur Rahman is continuing the cultivation method in a planned way which is very profitable.

He said, "I started dragon cultivation by leasing two bighas of land. Then I thought that dragon fruit was a long- term crop so it was possible to produce other crops in dragon field. From that thought I have produced multiple crops and found success."

Upazila Agriculture Officer Mushabbir Hossain said, "Undoubtedly, this is a very good initiative. Anisur Rahman is getting more profit by producing multiple crops. We always encourage him and others to produce such crops."
