Narsingdi farmers happy with vegetable production, prices

NARSINGDI, May 09 (BSS): Farmers of Narsingdi are happy as they are getting bumper production of the summer vegetables and its fair prices in the local markets this season.
For the last couple of weeks, farmers have been much busy harvesting and transporting the vegetables amid the suitable climate condition.
Vegetables farming brought a smile on the farmers' face as they are becoming financially solvent by selling their products.
A number of poor farmers in different upazilas of the district also achieved economic self-reliance through vegetables farming during last couple of years. Some 68,500 hectares land has been brought under summer vegetables cultivation in the six upazilas of the district in the current season.
Various kinds of vegetables including pumpkin, bitter gourd, gourd, okra, yard-long bean, and spinach have been cultivated by the farmers this season.
Narsingdi district, a vegetable surplus area, usually supplies 30 to 40 per cent of its total production to the capital and other districts after meeting the local demands.
