Natore bean growers make good profit

NATORE, Jan 24: Bean growers of the district have attained financial solvency due to good production and fair market price.
The vegetable item is being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 50 per kg in the retail market, while the wholesale is at Tk 1400 to Tk 1500 each maund.
Farmers start cultivating the winter delicacy in October. They generally harvest the vegetable from December and March, said farmer Hannan Talukder of Boraigram upazila.
"I have cultivated the item on 23 decimals of land spending Tk 4,500 and I have already made a profit of Tk 23,000," said farmer Aslam Uddin of Shingra upazila, adding, "I am expecting to make over Tk 20,000 more till the end of the season."
Deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md Rafiqul Islam said the area has immense prospect to grow the vegetable. "We provided all necessary support to the cultivators so that they can achieve a good output", he added.
