New bldg of Nilphamari hospital remains unused

NILPHAMARI, Oct 16: Nilphamari Sadar Hospital has been upgraded into 250-bed one from existing 50 beds and the construction of a six-storied building for the hospital has been completed recently at a cost of Tk 350 million.
The newly-constructed building has been handed over to the hospital authority by the contractor for use.
But for nearly one year the building remains unused due to lack of proper initiative of the authority, necessary materials to be used and also for manpower shortage.
Consequently the local people are being deprived of the extended facility that has been created.
Civil surgeon of the hospital Ranjit Kumar Barmon said requirement letter for manpower and operational fund has been sent to the higher authority so that the extended facility of 250-bed hospital can be utilised.
Sources said due to accommodation shortage the patients of 50-bed hospital are being forced to use the floor.
Sources said at present 21 patients are being accommodated the floor and they are being treated there.
Patient Abdur Rahman of Itakhola union said he was admitted here as his left leg has been fractured in an accident.
He said he was compelled to lie on the floor as the hospital authority failed to provide him any bed.
