Woman 'commits suicide' in Kurigram
KURIGRAM, June 04: A woman in Kurigram allegedly committed suicide over a family feud on Saturday morning. The deceased, Shahera Begum, 35, was the wife of Mohubor Ali of Hatiar Babur Char in the district's Ulipur upazila. According to locals, Shahera hanged herself from the ceiling of the family house over the long-standing feud with her husband. Imtiaz Kabir, officer-in-charge of Ulipur police station said legal action would be taken in the case after an investigation. — UNB
Farmers get income-generating support
RAJSHAHI, June 04: A group of marginalized farmers were given income-generating support aimed at improving their living and livelihood conditions in the district on Friday. Ten farmers were given goats, while two students Taka 12,000 each as education support as part of a two-day long farmers learning fair at Fazar Ali Mollah Degree College playground under Tanore Upazila in the district. Regional Office of Caritas Bangladesh hosted the upazila-level mass-awareness generation fair marking its golden jubilee celebration attended by around 500 from different areas. Nutrition support project of the organisation extended financial assistance to the fair. On the occasion, five saplings of fruit trees were transplanted on the college campus.Upazila Chairman Lutfor Haider Rashid, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pankaz Chandra Debnath, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sikrity Pramanik, Union Parishad Chairman Ataur Rahman and Caritas Regional Director Sukleash George Costa addressed the opening ceremony. — BSS
Three held with ganja, Phensedyl
RANGPUR, June 04: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested three men with 1.50 kilograms of ganja and 138 bottles of phensedyl from the Rangpur-Kurigram highway in Kawnia upazila of the district on Friday night. "On a tip off, a team of Crime Prevention Specialized Company (CPSC) of RAB-13 conducted a raid, seized the drugs and arrested the three persons from the spot," a press release said. During the raid, the elite force also seized five mobile phone sets from the possessions of the detainees. The arrested persons were identified as Md. Jasim Uddin, 24 and Md. Moynul Islam, 24, of Nageswari upazila in Kurigram and Md. Borhan Ali, 22, of Shibganj upazila in Bogura district. During preliminary interrogation, the detainees admitted that they had been involved in drug trading in connivance with their other cohorts for a long time. "After filing a case in this connection, the elite force handed over the arrested persons to Kawnia police station," the release added. — BSS
