Teenage girl kills self in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI, Apr 17: Police recovered the hanging body of a teenage girl from a dormitory in Hossainiganj on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Suraiya Khatun, 16, hailing from Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon. Suraiya's roommate informed pólice after finding her hanging body in her room, said officer-in-charge (OC) of Boalia pólice station, Majharul Islam. On information, fire service officials rushed to the spot and recovered the body after breaking down the door. The body has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College morgue for autopsy. It is initially suspected that she committed suicide. However, the real cause will be known only after getting the autopsy report. An unnatural death case will be filed in this regard, the OC added. — UNB
Youth's body recovered from Natore madrasa
NATORE, Apr 17: Police have recovered the body of a young man from a madrasa in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore on Saturday night. Gurudaspur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Matin said that locals informed police when they found the body of the 22-year old youth wrapped with a polythene on the verandah of Udbaria Dakhil Madrasa. Police, PBI and CID Crime Scene Unit collected evidence from the spot and sent the body to hospital morgue, he said. Police suspected that the young man was strangulated to death and then his body was left on the verandah of the madrasa. However, an investigation is underway, added the OC. — UNB
Man crushed under train in Chattogram
CHATTOGRAM, Apr 17: A 28-year-old man was crushed under the wheels of a train on Barabkunda Shuklalhat Rail track in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Helal Hossain, son of Siraj Mia of Subarnachar in Noakhali district.Khorshed Alam, sub-inspector of Sitakunda Railway Police outpost, said local people spotted the body of Helal on the track around 7 am and informed police. Police recovered the body and sent it to a local hospital morgue. — UNB
Poura councillor held for bid to steal bike
THAKURGAON, Apr 17: Police have arrested a municipality councillor of Ranishankail upazila of Thakurgaon who was held by locals during his bid to steal a motorcycle from a mosque in Pirganj upazila. The arrestee is Abdur Razzak, 43, a councillor of ward 6 of Ranishankail municipality and a resident of Bhandara village. According to police, Abdus Razzak was held by the locals at Baitul Aman (Belayet) Mosque in Pirganj upazila when he was trying to flee with a stolen motorcycle during the Tarabi prayers on Saturday night. The stolen motorcycle was reportedly set ablaze by some agitated locals and a person was injured. Pirganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahangir Alam said Abdur Razzak is the leader of a motorcycle theft gang in the district. He is accused in 45 cases of motorcycle theft filed at different police stations, he said. — UNB
