DMP arrests 55 for selling, consuming drugs
The members of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in several anti-drug raids arrested a total of 55 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs during the last 24 hours till 6am on Monday. The DB in association with local police carried out the drives simultaneously at different parts of the metropolis from 6am of August 28, according to a DMP release. In separate anti-drug raids, police seized huge drugs from their possessions. During the anti-drug raids, police seized 151 grams and 100 puria (small packets) of heroin, 925 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets, 10.710 kilograms of cannabis (ganja), 90 bottles of phensidyle syrup and four litres of foreign liquor from their possessions, the release added. Police filed 40 separate cases against the arrestees in these connections with respective police stations under the Narcotics Control Act. — BSS
Drug trader held with opium
CHATTOGRAM, Aug 29: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive today detained a drug trader with 3.580 kilograms (KGs) of opium worth about Tk 30.5 million from Keranihat area of Bandarban road under Satkania upazila here on Monday noon. The detainee has been identified as Suman Tanchangya, 28, son of Prabhat Tanchangya, hailed from the Bakichra area of Bandarban Sadar. Based on secret information, a team of RAB-7, detained Sumon Tanchangya from the said area on Sunday evening, Nurul Abshar, Senior Assistant Director (Media) told reporters. The RAB team recovered 3,580 grams of opium wrapped in black polythene inside the plastic bag from his possession. The estimated value of the recovered drugs is worth about Tk 0.35 million (3.58 crore). — BSS
Four held with hemp in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR, Aug 29: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested four alleged drug peddlers along with huge hemp in the Jamalpur municipality area on Sunday night. The arrested persons were identified as Foysal, 22, of Burichong upazila in Cumilla district, M Zakir Hossain, 32, hailing from Tarail upazila in Kishoreganj district, M Murad Miah, 28, and Md Jahangir Alam, 28, residents of Nandail upazila in Mymensingh district. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a raid in Basakpara area of the district town and arrested them around 11:45 pm, RAB sources said. RAB members recovered 12-kilogram of hemp after searching a pick-up. — BSS
