Two hurt as under-construction gate collapses

Two workers were injured as the under-construction gate of historical Durga Sagar Dighi (lake) collapsed at Madhabpasha union in Babuganj upazila of Barishal on Thursday. The incident occurred around 11:00 am and the injured workers were sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital, said Kamalesh Chandra Haldar, officer-in-charge of Barishal airport thana. Anisur Rahman, one of the injured workers, said he and another construction worker was hurt as the gate suddenly collapsed when were doing welding work. Kamrul Hasan, executive engineer of Barishal Public Works Engineering Department (PWED) said, Messrs Khan Builders was given the work of Tk 160 project and the 22 feet high gate was being constructed as part of it. — UNB

Indian medical student dies falling from rooftop

An Indian student of Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College has died after falling from a hotel rooftop during a study tour in Sirjganj. The 21-year-old student, Khushbu Manjur, died around 8:00 am on Wednesday after being critically injured in the drop from the fourth-floor rooftop of PPD Residential Hotel in Shahjadpur the day before, Ansiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) Enayetpur thana, said. A third-year student at the institution in Enayetpur, Khushbu was the daughter of Manjur Ahmmed Karai from Katu village at Anantanag's Bijbehara town located in Jammu and Kashmir. — bdnews24.com

RAB arrests four burglars

A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-4) has arrested four members of inter-district thief gang in Cumilla and recovered stolen garments goods of around Tk 40 million from their possessions. The arrestees are Md Himal alias Dulal (38), Abul Kalam (40), Md Mohosin Ali alias Babu (31) and Md Alamin (30). DIG and Commander of RAB-4 Mozammel Haque said the gang members used to steal garments goods from covered vans plying the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway. RAB also seized a covered van from the den of the gang. — BSS
