39 held for consuming, selling drugs
As part of the anti-drug drive in the capital, members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested a total of 39 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs during last 24 hours till 6am on Saturday. According to a release issued by the DMP, police conducted the operations against the drug sellers and consumers in different areas under various police stations. They also detained a total of 39 drug traffickers and recovered huge drugs from their possessions from 6am of September 16 to 6 am on Saturday. During the anti-drug drives, police seized 17.90 kilograms of cannabis (ganja), 394 pieces of yaba tablets, 50 grams and 32 puria (small packet) of heroin, 50 bottles of phensidyle syrup, two bottles of foreign made liquor and 35 drug injections from their possessions, it said. Police filed 31 cases against the arrestees in these connections with respective police stations under the Narcotics Control Act. — BSS
Current nets worth Tk 58.8m seized
BHOLA, Sept 17: Members of Coast Guard seized 1.68 million (16.80 lakh) meters of banned current nets worth Taka 58.8 million (5.88 crore) in a drive from the Nazirpur Machghat area of the Tentulia river in Tajumuddin upazila of the district on Saturday. On information, Lt. KM Shafiul Kinjal, Media Officer of Coast Guard South Zone of Bhola, said a team of coast guard conducted a drive this morning in the Nazirpur Machghat area and seized around 1.69 million meters of banned current nets from a warehouse. Later, the seized nets were burnt and destroyed in the presence of Fisheries Department officials. However, the owners of these nets could not be arrested. — BSS
RMP cyber crime unit attains success
RAJSHAHI, Sept 17: Cyber crime unit of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) has attained success in terms of combating crimes related to cyber crimes in the metropolis since its inception on September 17, 2020. Marking its two-year founding anniversary RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique told newsmen on Saturday that the unit is extending support towards identification and arrest of the criminals in connection with the cyber crimes. It has been working relentlessly in the field of unearthing clueless incidents, criminal identification and arresting them. Apart from this, it's sending necessary and demand-driven information to the adjacent district through proper channels. RMP launched the cyber crime unit to contain all sorts of cyber-related crimes two years back. Since then, the unit has been playing a vital role towards bringing those involved in spreading anti-state rumours and misleading information, and pictures through using Facebook, instagram, twitter and other social media to book within the shortest possible time. — BSS
