Refrigerator blasts leave 7 injured in Sylhet
SYLHET, Nov 14: Seven people were injured, including one with burns, after two refrigerators exploded at a roadside shop in Sylhet city, said police on Thursday. The blasts occurred in Sheikhghat area at around 10:00 pm on Wednesday. Witnesses said the refrigerators of shop 'Shaad & Co' suddenly exploded with a big bang, leaving seven people including pedestrians and a CNG-run autorickshaw driver injured. Of them, the shop's staff, Emon, 18, was admitted to the Burn Unit of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, they said, adding that the other injured also received treatment from the hospital.

Police detain youth with gold bars
KHULNA, Nov 14: A suspected smuggler was detained with eight pieces of gold bars in Sachibunia area of Khulna city late Wednesday, said police. The detainee is Abdul Awal, 36, son of Khalilur Rahman of Bhadarpur village under Chandina upazila of Cumilla. Md Touhiduzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Labanchara police station, said they set up a checkpost in front of one Sefa Medical in Sachibunia area after being tipped-off that a consignment of gold would go to Satkhira border from Dhaka via Khulna. As per the information, police conducted a raid in a Satkhira-bound bus and detained him, he said, adding that though the accused initially refused to have gold with him, later it was detected in his stomach through a medical test.— UNB
