Two ship employees die in Ctg
CHATTOGRAM, June 03: Two employees of a ship died in a vessel apparently after sustaining injuries due to snapping of a rope in the Karnaphuli river of Chattogram on Monday night. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Altaf, 40, sukani of FV Sea Heart-1 and Nur Uddin, chief chef of the ship, both hailed from Hatiya upazila of Noakhali district. Officer-in-Charge of Sadarghat river police station Mohammad Nizam Uddin said the ship had run aground on a shoal in the river during high tide earlier. Another vessel from the same company was attempting to tow it with a rope but the rope snapped, injuring three workers, he said. The injured were taken to Ma O Shishu Hospital in Agrabad where two of them succumbed to their injuries on Monday night, he said. — UNB
Man held with 57-kg ganja
RAJSHAHI, June 03: A police team arrested an alleged top-listed drug peddler with 57 kilograms of ganja from Noapara area under Puthiya Upazila of the district early hours on Tuesday. The arrestee is Fazley Rabbi Hridoy, 23, son of Rahid Mollah of the same village, said police sources here this afternoon. On a tip-off, a police team conducted a sudden raid in the village and arrested him with a huge amount of ganja around 8.10 am. Later, the arrested person along with the seized drugs was handed over to the police. — BSS
Man electrocuted in Kurigram
KURIGRAM, June 03: A man died after being electrocuted in Rajarghat area under Tabakpur union in Ulipur upazila of the district today. The deceased was Dulal Chandra, 35, son of Sachin Chandra of the area. Dulal came in contact with a live electric-wire while he was connecting an electric motor around 11:00 am. He was taken to the Upazila Health Complex where the on duty doctor declared him dead. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ulipur Police Station Zillur Rahman confirmed. — BSS
Robbers arrested with firearms
BHOLA, June 03: The joint force on Tuesday arrested two members of 'Siraj Gang' with three firearms, live ammunition and equipment used for manufacturing weapons at Daulatkhan Upazila in the district. The detainees, identified as Mohammad Shahid, 48, and Mohammad Shahabuddin, 45, both are residents of Ward No. 4 at Paschim Joynagar village under Dakshin Joynagar Union. Acting on a tip-off, members of the Coast Guard South Zone, with support from local police, carried out a raid near Khayerhat Bazar in the upazila, said Coast Guard official at a press briefing. — BSS
