Minor boy drowns in Meherpur pond

MEHERPUR, June 17: A minor boy drowned in a pond at Jorpukuria village under Gangni upazila of Meherpur district this afternoon. The deceased was Fahim Hossain, 8, a second-grade student of a local kindergarten school and son of Zahid Hossain, a resident of Jorpukuria village. Some children were playing football in a field near the pond around 3 pm and Fahim inadvertently fell into the water body and drowned. Locals rescued him and took to the Gangni Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station Bani Israel confirmed the incident. — BSS

Tk 0.18m in Fatikchhari

CHATTOGRAM, June 17 : Three bakeries were fined a total of Tk 0.18 million (Tk 1.75 lakh) for producing food products in a dirty and damp environment at Bibirhat Bazar of Fatikchhari Municipality in Chattogram on Tuesday morning. The mobile court led by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Nazrul Islam conducted the operation at Bibirhat Bazar. The court fined Momtaz Bakery, Anil Bakery and Abul Hossain Bakery Tk 50,000, Tk 75,000 and Tk 50,000 each for producing food products in a dirty and damp environment. — BSS

10-feet python rescued in Khulna, released into Sundarbans

KHULNA, June 17 : A python measuring about 10 feet in length was rescued from a tree near the Kashiabad Police Outpost in Koyra upazila of Khulna on Tuesday. Forest department officials rescued the snake with help of locals around 8am and later released it deep into the Sundarbans, said Md Shafiqul Islam (Shahed), officer of Kashiabad Forest Station. According to local sources, residents first spotted the large python on a tree near the outpost and informed the police. — UNB
