Couple found dead

in Barguna house

BARGUNA, Sept 07: Police recovered the throat-slit body of a woman and the hanging body of her husband from a house at Dakkhin Eitbaria village in Sadar upazila of Barguna district on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Swapan Molla, 32, son of Abdul Khalek and his wife Aklima, 28,of the same village. Police also rescued the couple's two children from the house. Quoting Swapan's cousin Mohammad Yeakub Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police station, said Sadia, five-year-daughter the couple, first informed the matter to Razia, another cousin of Swapan. — UNB

Three gangsters arrested

in Meherpur

MEHERPUR, Sep 07: Joint forces in Meherpur arrested three gang members on Saturday and seized a foreign pistol, a fake pistol, a magazine, three walkie-talkie sets, drugs, and related equipment during raids carried out in different parts of the town from midnight to afternoon. The arrested were identified as Akash aka Shakil ,26, son of Abdur Rashid from Meherpur Government High Schoolpara, Sajib, 27, son of Jasim Uddin from Bospara, and Raihan ,36, son of Hamidur Sheikh from Haldarpara. They were involved in cases of weapons, drugs, and extortion. — UNB

Khatib hacked

to death in Bhola

BHOLA, Sept 07: A khatib (who leads Jumma prayers) was hacked to death inside his own home in Bhola town on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Maulana Aminul Haque Nomani, a teacher at Bhola Darul Hadis Kamil Madrasa and khatib of the Sadar Upazila Parishad Mosque. He was also a well-known Islamic speaker in the area. Locals said Aminul returned home at around 09:00 pm after leading the Esha prayers at the Paschim Charnoabad Jame Mosque. At the time, his wife, daughter and two sons were away visiting relatives, leaving him alone in the house. — UNB

Six fishermen held with

trawler in Sundarbans

KHULNA, Sept 7: Members of the East Forest Division arrested six fishermen along with an engine-run trawler from the Narikelbaria canal area in the Sundarbans on Saturday night for illegally netting fish. The detained fishermen were identified as Bellal Khan, 30, Miraz, 29, Hridoy Howlader, 22, Al Amin Howlader, 22, Khairul Islam, 24, and Isa Mia. All of them are residents of Padma village under Patharghata upazila in Barguna district. Forest department sources said the fishermen were caught red-handed while illegally fishing in the canal using the trawler around 11:00 pm. The drive was led by Subrata Kumar Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Dublarchar Forest Outpost.— BSS
