Worker dies in Jafflong stone quarry mudslide

SYLHET, Mar 10: A worker was killed and another injured in a mudslide while they were extracting stones from a quarry at Jafflong in Goainghat upazila of the district on Saturday. The victim was identified as Babul Khan, 40, son of Asu Khan, a resident of Mougati union in Netrakona district. Officer-in-Charge of Goainghat police station Hillol Ray said the incident occurred at noon in Londoni Bazar area. Police recovered the body and sent it to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue. — BSS

Jessore road accident kills two female students

JESSORE, Mar 10 (BSS): Two female students were killed in a road accident in front of First Security Bank at Bagachra Bazar area in Sharsha Upazila of the district on Saturday morning. The deceased were identified as Fatima alias Roza,12, a class seven female student of Bagachra Girls School and College, daughter of Alomgir Kabir, residence of Baguri village and Zerin Khanom, 11, a class six female student of the same Institution, daughter of Ibrahim Hossen of the same village in the upazila. In-charge of Bagachra police camp Inspector Humayun Kabir confirmed the accident. Police said, the accident occurred in the area when a speedy sand-laden truck hit Bagachra College teacher Alamgir Kabir's motorcycle around 8.00am, while they were going to school riding motorcycle, Roza and Zerin dead on the spot and Alamgir injured. Police also seized the truck but its driver and helper fled from the scene. — BSS

C'nawabganj clash leaves one dead

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Mar 10: One person was killed and two others were injured in a clash that erupted between two rival groups at Bagdanga village under Sundarpur union in Sadar upazila on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Ayub Ali, son of Naimuddin, a resident of the same area. Officer-in-charge of Sadar police station Monjur Rahman said the clash took place in the morning between two rival groups over previous enmity. During the clash, three persons sustained injuries. The injured were sent to Sadar hospital where attending doctors declared Ayub dead. — BSS

Police recover body of cattle trader in Kurigram

KURIGRAM, Mar 10: A cattle trader was stabbed to death at Dharmapur village in Rowmari upazila early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 40, son of late Jalil, a resident of the same village in the upazila. Family sources said three people- Sifat, Mukul and Dulal-called Mannan out of the house around 1.00am. Later they fled away leaving the blood-stained body of Mannan in the house. Jamalpur BGB-35 commander Lt Col Mohiuddin said Manna's body was found in a house 400 meters off barbed fence along the border. He might have been stabbed to death with a sharp weapon, he said. Rowmari Police Station Sub Inspector Rana said police were sent to recover the body. — UNB
