Nilphamari Upazila now beggar-free

NILPHAMARI, Nov 22: Initiative to rehabilitate beggars in Kishoreganj upazila in Nilphamari district has been acclaimed by the local people, divisional administration as well as the foreign donors.
In the meantime the upazila administration declared itself beggar-free and the afford is going on to make the initiative a total success. So far as many as 979 beggars have been rehabilitated.
Divisional Commissioner, Rangpur Dilwar Bakth and a team of JAICA also visited the upazila to have a glimpse of the initiative and praised the effort and intended to extend their hand of support. While visiting the upazila they contacted some of the self-employed beggars who have abandoned begging from door to door and now earning Tk 250 to 300 per day.
The beggars are now engaged in rearing Black Bengal goat, small-scale business, tailoring and so on. When contacted Kalpana Begum (35) said after separation from her husband, she resorted to begging but now she is working in a Chatal of a husky mill where she earn Tk 250 per day.       abumusa88@gmail.com
