No alternative to accurate statistics for proper planning: Experts

RANGPUR, May 21 (BSS): Speakers at a views-sharing meeting here have said there is no alternative to accurate, authentic, reliable and timely statistics for proper planning, designing, monitoring and evaluating the national development plans.
Divisional Office of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) organised the meeting on Wednesday for registrars and supervisors under Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) area of the Monitoring the Situation Vital Statistics of Bangladesh (MSVSB) Project at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room.
Director General of BBS and Additional Secretary Mohammad Abdul Wazed attended the meeting as the chief guest with its Joint Director of Rangpur Divisional Office Nasir Uddin Ahmed in the chair.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr ATM Mahbubul Karim, Project Director of the MSVSB Project AKM Ashraful Haque attended and addressed the event, moderated by Sadar Upazila Statistics Officer Swattik Al Maruf, as special guests.
Joint Director of Rangpur Divisional Office Nasir Uddin Ahmed delivered welcome speech on objectives of the meeting and the progress already achieved by BBS in collection of information, conducting census and preparing statistics on various sectors.
The speakers stressed on collecting accurate information and statistics on population, households, agriculture, economy, health and nutrition, literacy and education and other sectors, for proper planning of development works in attaining sustainable national uplift. They put emphasis on enhancing skill and expertise of the participants involved with collecting information needed for preparing and presenting various statistics, and asked them to apply their expertise professionally and correctly.
The chief guest called upon the local registrars and supervisors for working with utmost dedication and sincerity in collecting accurate statistics and put emphasis on necessity of presenting the socio-economic activities and successes through correct statistics.
