PABNA, Apr 25: A man was gunned down and 6 out of 15 others were bullet injured in a deadly clash between two groups at Char Bhobanipur village on the bank of the Padma river in Pabna sadar upazila over cultivation of fish in a water body Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Azizul Islam, 24, son of Ejibar Bapari a resident of the village Char Bhobanipur.
Police and locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between Shaheed Biswas and Abdus Sattar groups over the ownership of a water body at the village.
Ahsanul Haque, officer-in-charge of Pabna sadar police station said, the supporters of the both groups got locked in a clash with firearms, iron rods, hockey sticks and others sharp weapons over the issue at around 8.30pm on Friday, leaving 15 injured. Azizul Islam died on the way to Pabna Medical College Hospital at around 9.45pm on the night.
Six of the injured Habibur Rahman, 57, Ashraful Islam, 15, Md Nasim, 22, Munni Khatun, 55, Sakib Hossain, 14, and Ejibar Ali, 40, were admitted to Pabna Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Additional police deployed in the area to avoid further clash, OC added.
