One killed in Sirajganj clash over sand lifting

SIRAJGANJ, Sept 17 (UNB): One person was killed and 17 others were injured in a clash between two groups over lifting sand from the Jamuna river at Dorcha village in Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Kuddus,42, son of Sona Uddin, a resident of Chardiari village in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail district.
Habibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said two groups of the area locked in the clash at about 11:00 am over lifting sand from Jamuna char (shoal emerged from riverbed) in the area, leaving Kuddus dead on the spot and 17 others injured.
Informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
