One sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in Chapainawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Sept 4: One person was sentenced to life term imprisonment and was fined Tk. 20,000, and six months more in default in a murder case in Chapainawabganj on Wednesday evening.
Chapainawabganj district and session judge Kabita Khanam gave the verdict.
The convicted person was identified as Musharaf Hossain Musa, 25, son of Taijuddin of Brajonathpur village under Gomostapur upazila of Chapainawabganj district.
Another accused in the case, Anarul Islam of the same area, was acquitted as the charges brought against him were not proved, court sources said.
Prosecution story said, convicted Musa built up an illicit relationship with Sayera Begum, 30, wife of late Sajjad Mondol of the same area. As Sayera Begum became pregnant, Musa took her out of home on July 1, 2010, and killed her by suffocating. Later he hid the dead body under sand on the bank of the river Mohananda.
Anarul Islam, husband of the victim's niece filed a murder case with Gomostapur thana on July 28, 2010. The police station submitted chargesheet to the court on February 28, 2011.
As the charge was proved, the court pronounced the verdict in presence of the convicted person.
