GAIBANDHA, Feb 03 (UNB): Chemical-free way of farming brought good fortunes for vegetable growers in Bhasharpara village under Fulchhari upazila of the district.

Take Belal Miah as an example of how going green becomes a new trend in vegetable farming.

On the shores of the river Brahmaputra, Belal Miah managed cultivating vegetable varieties - cucumber, bitter gourd, red spinach, and pumpkin without the use of any chemical fertilisers. He got good harvest only applying organic manures. Others have emulated what he tried to do and have experienced similar success, bringing financial stability to their families.

"I'm making good profit by cultivating vegetables free of chemical fertilisers. But if we get support from the agri department, farmers like us will be able to produce more," said Belal Miah. He said the government needs to keep rising costs of irrigation and agro-inputs under control.

Ruhul Amin, deputy director of DAE, Gaibandha, said they would take measures to provide assistance to growers who practices organic way of vegetable farming.
