Pabna, Rajshahi, Moulvibazar, Faridpur road accidents kill 10

A total of 10 persons were killed in separate road accidents in Rajshahi, Moulvibazar, Pabna and Faridpur districts on Saturday and Friday, report agencies

In Pabna, two officials of Export Processing Zone (EPZ) were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus on the Dashuria-Kushtia highway in Kolerkandi area under Ishwardi upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Amit Kumar Kundu, 40, son of Subrata Kumar Kundu, a resident of Radhanagar area under Pabna town, and Nasim Hossain, 45, son of Abdur Rauf of Sheikhpara village under Muladali union of Ishwardi. They were officers of Renesa Limited in Ishwardi EPZ.

The accident occurred when a passenger bus of S N Paribahan was going to Dashuria from Kushtia. On the way, it collided head-on with a microbus coming from the opposite direction around 8:30am this morning, leaving five seriously injured, in-charge of Pakshi Highway Police Outpost of Ishwardi Ashish Kumar Sanal, said.

Locals rescued them and took to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex but the two succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital, he said.

In Rajshahi, two people including a child died and two others were injured after a bus hit a van they were riding at Mohanpur upazila in Rajshahi district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Siraj, 50, a van driver, and Abdullah, 12, one of the passengers of the van.

The injured are Abdullah's father and sister- Abdul Kuddus, 40, and Nazifa, 14.

Horidas Mondal, officer-in-charge of Mohanpur Police Station, said that the Naogaon- bound bus lost control and crashed into the van at Shoipara around 12 pm, leaving the two dead on the spot.

The bodies were sent to the Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) morgue.

In Bandarban, two female tourists were killed and 10 others injured when a tourist jeep (locally known as Chander Gari) plunged into a ditch in Ruma upazila of the hilly district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Joynob, 24, and Firoja Khatun, 53. They were the residents of Magura district.

Local people said the accident occurred when a tourist jeep carrying the tourists fell into a roadside ditch around 11 am in Darjiling Para area on Ruma-Keokradong road as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving the women dead on the spot and injuring 10 others.

The injured were sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital.

In Moulovibazar, two people were killed and six others injured in a collision between a CNG-run autorickshaw and a minibus in Sadar upazila of Moulvibazar on Friday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as auto rickshaw driver Abas Miah, 65, a resident of Brahmanpara under Sadar upazila, and passenger Madhu Miah, 60, of the same area.

The injured are Madhu Miah's daughters Sumi Begum, 40, Meghna Begum, 42, granddaughters Mim Akhter, 18, Suma Begum, 12, Faiza, 3, and grandson Fahim, 12.

Quoting locals, Moulvibazar Model Police Station's Officer-in-Charge KM Nazrul said that the accident happened around 2:45 pm when the speeding minibus knocked the autorickshaw from the opposite direction in Durlavpur area, leaving the two dead on the spot and six others critically injured.

Four of the injured were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital while the rest were undergoing treatment at Moulvibazar 250-bed hospital, he said.

In Faridpur, four people were killed and five others injured in a bus-Laguna collision in at Bhanga upazila in Faridpur district.

Three of the deceased were identified as Mehedi Matubbar, 25, Hafizul Islam Habu, 40, and Sirajul Islam, 25.

The accident occurred on Dhaka-Khulna highway on Friday evening.

Bhanga Highway Police Station Officer in Charge Abu Sayeed Md Khairul Anam said, the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound bus of Sohag Paribahan collided with a leguna coming from the opposite direction.

Two of the injured, Rani Bala, 60, and Pabitra Bala, 35, were taken to Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital after their condition deteriorated.
