Padma erodes Chapainawabganj town protection dam for low quality construction

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Oct 05: Over 30-metre long town protection dam on the mighty Padma river at Tikri area of Alatuli union under sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district has been devoured on Wednesday due to low quality construction work, claim the local people.

The authority concern of Water Development Board (WDB) and contractor has denied the allegation at all. On the other hand, the inhabitants of the area become worried for the miseries condition of the dam. Some six villages of the area have already dissolved for the furious appearance of the river.

WDB official said, a total Tk 2740 million was allotted for constructing the town protection dam since 2015 and started constricting work and the work is running now. They are trying heart and soul to save the dam by any cost, official added.

Some new cropland inundated for the pouring water in the area, causing serious worries for marginal farmers. The farmers are getting worried day by day.

Khairul Isman, 45, under the area said, the town protection dam have been collapsed for doing low quality work. To save frequent collapse, the authority concern comes forward to take measure steps immediately, he added.

Executive engineer of WDB Chapainawabganj Sayed Sayedur Alam said getting collapsing news he visited the spot with other official and order to reconstruct the collapse CC block immediately. He urged to the common people not to be worried for the collapsing of the dyke.
